Got a new hair cut today. I like to think of it as a fashionable rework of the traditional Amish bowl cut. My friend Sonya did it for me, she rocks the monkey.
Made zuchinni chocolate mini cupcakes today for my Bervie Women’s Institute meeting tomorrow. Planted the rest of the strawberries. Picked out my mother’s day present (fruit trees) and watched in awe as my husband started up the tiller in one shot. I had planned to do “no till” this year, but we have revised. We have tilled some sections. I should have thrown some roof tin over it to stop the weeds or something. Next year.
Kids have been playing with their new swing set (as seen in the background in the pic below). They love it. The only thing they love more is the giant pile of topsoil that the Eisen’s removed and piled in the garden. I am hoping my new WOOFER friend will help me work two years of goat poo/straw into that giant pile to make The Best Garden Soil Known to Mankind. Or at least, ever known to my farm. Picture below: Mags is giving me serious stink eye, and the dog has just eaten a partially rotted mouse. Let me tell you, I thought her farts were bad BEFORE she got into the mice. Oy vey.
No pictures of Bob to share. My camera card ate them. He moves so quickly these days, I practically have to chase him with the camera. So I have another picture of Meeps to share, peeing in the grass. She’s THRILLED she can pee outside, often “standing up” like her brother. It doesn’t work out so hot when she tries to pee standing up indoors. Definitely one of the many reasons I could not live in town again; peeing in the grass and doing it in the lawn. I mean, I don’t think I wore clothes at all the summer I was pregnant with Bob. Naked pregnant chick sightings abounded in Armow. Well, they would have perhaps if the human population even attempted to outnumber the chicken population.
I would love to end this with “life is totally fucking amazing super awesome as usual!” but my life has been fucking turned upside down and inside out with this Wind Turbine business. I feel helpless, angry, sad, scared. Spent much of this evening reading This Blog about living beside turbines and reading one frustrating transcript of our legislative process after another. Municipal meeting is tomorrow. Went around this new project boundary, informing neighbours of the meeting. Found out way more people have optioned land than I had imagined. Oh raging unpopularity, hello old friend.
Just realized it’s after midnight and I am hoping I have drunk enough red wine so that I can attempt sleep. Thankfully after nearly half a dozen years practically entirely sober, it doesn’t take much.

Always make sure the bowl is in straight! We were looking at childhood slides a while ago and there were a couple of slides that looked like the bowl had slipped to one side on my wife!
Takes me half a glass (teehee).
Meeps is SO FRIKKEN CUTE! I was a pee-in-the-grass kinda kid too. Grew up in town, but we had a massive backyard full of trees and lawn to pee on.
I’ve been reading up a bit on the wind turbines thing. You were right. Scary stuff! Thanks for posting about it and good luck.
Great pics! Country living has got to be great—we are country folk trying to live in town I think. Many times I look out and see someone peeing in the back yard. My son will actually come home from school, drop his school bag in the back door, and head out to the corner of the shed to pee! (we do have indoor plumbing!!) I was just in at the school right now speaking to the principal—regarding the insane usage of cell phones in the public school(NOT NECESSARY but he insists they can do nothing and some parents want their kids to have one——hello health problems and perhaps even fatal ones down the not so long road!!!). I requested my kids be moved from where the class microwaves are—my son is less than 2.5 feet from an old one that is used all lunch long at school. Should be a MINIMUM of 10 feet–health concerns are very large with him being sensitive to electrical pollution/electrical magnetic fields like that which are given off by a microwave(they are bad for anyone even if you are not electrically sensitive)–little lone what they do to the quality of your food. Was informed they just got new wireless laptops in the library—hello anyone care about the health of our kids. I talked to the prinicipal about what we have had to do to our house to make is “safe” for me and although nothing he can do at the school he is very interested in doing it for his own home—nice!! ?Anyway–I share your concern and fear over the windturbines. My husband works by your Dad Ashley and they have talked about the windturbines and all that has happened with my health etc. I believe my husband forwards all his dirty electricity emails on to your dad. I just keep trying to educate who I can and hopefully more and more people will catch on. It is a hard battle though–like you say when you went around and found out how many people are not anti-windmills. I was actually told to watch what I say and who I say stuff to cause those not believing or understanding about it have been known to “attack”(not literally) those of us with the knowledge. I say bring it on–try attacking me! I love my family and kids enough to take the time to understand it. Anyway–love your blog. Thoroughly enjoy reading it. Happy gardening–we have borrowed some property from a friend outside of town to enlarge our veggie garden this year. A fun, healthy family activity!
Naked pregnant ladies and children peeing on grass: the more I read the more we want to move out to the country! Love the new do, too. Had no idea about these windturbines, though. Just what you need – another battle.
Wow! That’s TOTALLY similar to the haircut I’ve been drooling about and planning to get next time (next month, likely). Need short sides. Need bulk gone. You look super hot. How’s it feel???
love the hair cut….cupcakes sound delicious….Meeps rocks…and fuck the government.
It’s hard not to let this stuff get you down. When it feels like everyone is burying their heads in the sand and the world is going to hell.
I hope you are feeling more optimistic today.
You can’t change the world, but you can make a dent.
I like that—you can’t change the world but you can make a dent—-what a great way of looking at things!!!
I’d love to see a pic of your cut with your hair down. Super cute!
Wind up your ass and oil on my formerly white beaches.
Outside of a pandemic the size of The Stand, I dont see any alternative and it suuuuuucks. No, really. Chris wants to move to Alaska, say’s unspoiled nature still exists. Of course it does, it’s mostly Tundra.
I would take a littttle pandemic……………. Maybe 2012 will come along and knock everyone off the grid. A girl can dream.
Cute do, I’d like to see more pictures of it!
I got Paidraig slippers (Ok, however it’s spelled) for my birthday, talk about plush. And I’d like you to come back and eat Thai food with me again soon!
OH MY! let’s see that hair cut.
Happy mother’s day!!!
Happy Mothers Day Ashley!

Love your new hair dooo eh! It’s totally rad! You are a beauty. I am drunk on a measly glass of wine. Yay to no more breast feeding! Night, night. dah’lin
