Awesome New Toys

March 4th, 2010

I love Etsy.  I really do.  I always find the best handmade creations.  Soos & Boots is definitely a new favourite shop.  And they’re Canadian, eh!

The kids for Christmas got a lovely little set of crocheted bags, stuffed full of bright felted shapes.  It’s one of their favourite toys.  They put the creatures in and out of the sacks, play with the creatures, pretend to “sew” the creatures.  A very simple, well made and well loved gift.

The mailman this morning brought the kids an early Easter present of felted eggs and a hilarious ball.  I could hardly fend the kids off the toys to take a picture of them!  They’re so excited, bouncing these little things all about the living room.  Another terrific purchase from Soos & Boots!! They also do custom orders, which is what these little duders were.

Also in the fibre arts news, here’s a picture of Mags in a newly aquired sweater that was pulled off of a moth eaten stuffed rabbit.  Yup, my daughter is so petite she fits into clothes intended for rabbits.  (Though she is nearly two, her 6-12 month pants still fit her perfectly about the waist… it’s just that they only come to her knees!) Her kitty hat was lovingly crocheted by a friend also.  The second picture is the face she makes when you ask her to say “CHEESE”!

I’ve got to get to work tidying the house of in honor of my company this weekend.  Company!  Here to see ME!  I am stoked.  If I can get the house together in good time, I’m going to hopefully finish some curtains for the kids room, and start laying out fabric and wool for some pillows for the kids.  Time to brew another coffee and get my clean on!

The cheese face is cracking me up. I absolutely love it!
I’ve also become addicted to Etsy. But it’s fabric that’s my weakness on there. I don’t have any well stocked fabric stores around here so Etsy drew me in and I’m hooked.

My little girl has the opposite problem. She’s 9 months and has to wear 18-24 month clothing. She was just born big. :)

Christi! I hear ya about fabric stores. All I have here are Amish run shops, which are all in sheds. While that makes for a fun adventure, it doesn’t produce the fabrics I necessarily want. Lots of great cheap solids though. Fat Quarter Shop is a fave of mine. Anna Maria Horner is definitely my favourite designer at the moment!

    What beautiful toys!

Her cheese face is adorable! Pearl does it herself now when she plays with her toy camera, just yelling ‘Cheeeeese!’ all around the house. I love them at this age!

We haven’t done EC with Pearl so she’s still in cloth nappies. They’re Bum Genius so they’re fairly slim but still bulky, and clothes just aren’t made for big bottoms. We’re always having to roll up her trousers. And you’ve got Maggie on the other end of the spectrum, teeny tiny made even tinier without the nappy to fill the clothes. So cute!

I never ever laugh at other people’s kids pictures, but holy shit, that second picture of Mags had me biting my lip- literally. Ho-LY shit. That’s the funniest face I’ve ever seen.

Hurrah for company! We have non baby company this weekend as well. I am stoked. Well, they have a baby themselves, but WE can talk adult stuff and have tipple when they go to sleep!

That picture of Maggie is so funny. What a little ham! I don’t know what age kids get to when they start goofing about, but its so funny watch. Addie loves hamming it up to the camera (and webcam when I talk to my family in the UK)

That bathroom better SPARKLE, woman! And clean sheets! And…no snotty noses! In fact, pack your children up and ship them to gramma’s!

I have incredibly high standards, doncha know. Anyone who’s been to MY museum of a house knows that.

Oh. And I’m bringin’ wine. Wine that doesn’t require a cork screw. Huh!

I have to share these with you: Beneath the Rowan Tree in Northern Ontario (http://www.etsy.com/shop/BeneathTheRowanTree), she used to to a set of felted counting ladybugs I bought for the kids two Christmases ago, they’re still one of my favourite toys (I tear the house apart when I can’t find one them!) and Say O Happy Day (http://www.etsy.com/shop/sayohappyday), our very own Nurtured Jessika!

C – Bob, in fact is going to have a sleep over at Grammas. It’ll be girls night. Maggie loves a nice single malt.

April – I have been wanting to order from Rowan Tree for ages, just can never decide WHAT exactly! Any other Etsy faves?

And I am always on the look out for unique boys clothes (either to buy, or rip off myself). I’ve got cute girls stuff out the wazoo.

  10. Caitlin says:

Noooo! I love Bob, will I still get to hang out with him?

  11. Twwly says:

Oh yes. He’ll be with us for dinner, and then is off to bowl for BigBrothers/Sisters with G&G. We are welcome to join. Wild horses couldn’t tear him away from a sleepover, it’s like Disney.

  12. Allahkat says:

I am jealous that Caitlin is coming to see you!

  13. Nicole says:

    Pricey?
    Yes.
    Fabulous?
    YES!

  14. Christi says:

Horner is great! I’m on a total Heather Ross kick right now. Especially the mermaid prints which are of course out of print.
The Amish shops sound neat, though I can see where the selection is probably minimal. Still, better than my dreaded local Walmart!

    Ahhhh…. so cuteeee!!!!
    Good blogging! :)

That cheese-face on Meeps cracked me up.

  17. Erin says:

The ‘cheese’ face is pretty much the most hilarious/wonderful thing I’ve ever seen.

Oh, I was going to make a list of my favourite etsy shops but it was getting silly and I realized I could just post my etsy profile here and you can peruse my list at your leisure. Just skip all the yarn shops, there’s rather a lot of them.
