Rachel, thought of scratches never occurred to me. We have wood floors, they're not scratched yet anyway! The bedrails we have on our king size are "travel" rails, they collapse easily, arent very tall, and there can be gap between the bed and the rail because they just slide under the mattress. We like them on our bed because they are still safe and we dont have to feel like WE are sleeping in a crib. On the kids beds we have the kind that clamp down onto the mattress, so there is no gap and they are very tall.

Just out of curiosity... What kind of bedrails do you use, and how are you protecting the floor from scratches? We bedshare and are thinking of putting a mattress on the floor for our 16 month old. Thanks!

Jay -- Meeps is 17 months. Bob didn't move into his own room until 2.5 years, and he ASKED to do it. I think it went quicker for Maggie because her brother was there, so you might be golden. Kids understand more than we think, start talking to your son about "his own bed" and "kids room" and whatnot... and good luck!!
