This batch we are hoping to keep for longer, though we can't keep them at our farm for the winter. (They're going to a friends barn with all of their chickens, banded, to party until spring). Friends of ours bought an incubator so they could get their own Buff Orphy chicks, which I am hoping to take advantage of. We raise meat birds for meat, though they will lay eventually. We always buy dual purpose meat birds, this breed that grows well without being non-chickeny like the white rocks, etc. Hens don't lay until 20 weeks and you kill meat birds between 6-8 weeks usually, though ours have gone for longer.
