Duncan Family Farm

July 27th, 2009

…Is very pleased to announce the arrival of our first goat babies!  One boy and one girl were born sometime on Sunday, July 26th to Buffy, our smaller buff doe.  They weigh approximately four pounds each.

We returned home in the early evening after icecream cones from the stand in town to put the doors on our goat hut.  We figured we were all in good time as she was not due until August 1st.  Uncle Donald walked out first and saw little goat babies frolicking around the pen!  What a pleasant surprise.

The maternity ward was finished up quickly (wait until you see the sweet touch on the doors) and mama and babies were soon nestled quietly in a cushy bedding of straw.  No sooner were they all inside than it started to rain.  Could not have worked out better.  Not only did we not have to “make it feel like a banana” (play midwife to any potential breech births or the like), she’s taken to mothering beautifully.  Her little kiddos have had a few latching problems, but they’re nursing like champions now.

We have decided to work our way through the alphabet with every group of kids and keep the names tattoo related.  SO.  The boy is blonde, named Amund (for Amund Dietzel) and the girl is black and white with blue eyes, named Alva (for Th0mas Alva Edison).

Here are the first (of many) pictures of our beautiful little babies.

so freaking cute. I’m actually surprised you’ve had enough restraint to NOT sneak them into the house. I dunno if I could ever be so strong.
