Today’s downpours stopped for the duration of our Saturday Morning Market cheese selling. Super. We had the usual chevre, as well as some delightful little mini chevre filled cheesecakes and a soft ewe’s milk cheese covered in a beautifully brain like white bloomy mould.

Hoping that’s the only mould we have in our house. I ordered some mould test kits to see if there might be any hidden nasties in the walls. We’ll see! We’re having a pretty terrible time getting the ABX into her, but we’ve at least got a check up next Thursday. To top it all off, she’s teething and therefore an ooze machine.
My garden is full, teeming with green tomatoes, peas, wee carrots. Some of my peppers recovered and my cabbage plants are mammoth. Lots of life around here. Bob has been really great about gently cupping the toads he catches these days. And Buffy (our pregnant small buff doe) is due to kid August 1st. Our friend Donald is going to finish off the maternity-ward goat-hut extension project, which we’ll probably spend two days trying to chase/lure/fool her into. I’m glad she’s proven because there’s no way she’s gonna let me touch her if she kids while I’m around. They can throw 3-4 kids and birth weight is sometimes TWO POUNDS! It’s gonna take every ounce of self restraint not to put them in my pocket and bring them in the house.

sounds like a great time to make a green tomato cake! yum.
Green tomato cake with toads?
In Bob’s hand, it looks huge. Guh. I have a serious frog/toad phobia. Just looking at a picture I feel ill…
That cracks me up about taking the little newborn kids into the house! I raised sheep and man, they’re so cute when they’re tiny like that!
Great toad picture!

That ewes milk cheese looks to die for. It has been much too long since I’ve had some great cheese.
more time taking kid to doctor and less time taking in stray cats.
gosh that cheese looks delicious! the last cheese i had was a mini babybel light over a month ago. obviously not the yummiest. why do you have to live in Canada when Southern California would be such a nice place to sell your cheesy wares?
Anon – Kid has had doctors appointments, and numerous trips to hospital. If you’re going to read a blog and leave an asshole comment, at least leave an accurate one.
Cheese looks great, glad to hear the weather was decent for the market.
wow, that was totally uncalled for, Anonymous!
So, my baby boy is allergic to milk products, so I can’t eat cheese. Your cheese is making that very hard for me. I love cheese.
We have a farm around here that has cheese-making classes. I’m thinking about sending my husband so that when the baby outgrows his allergy, we’ll have some yummy homemade cheese to eat too! Unless, that it, you can ship to Orange County, NY!
That’s why I always moderate first comments! Keeps the a-holes at bay
