We participated in the annual Teddy Bears Parade this past weekend. It was pouring on Saturday, so it was held on the rain date, Sunday. Only since the police are so pressed for time upholding law and order around here, they couldn’t make it on such short notice and thus there was no police escort for the parade to march down the street. So we marched on the sidewalk. BESIDE the slow moving vintage firetruck blasting out “Walkin’ on sunshine, WHOA-OA!”.
Teddy bears, 1. Police, 0.

Bob, when asked to smile for the camera, makes this face:

He is in the local paper making this face, comme ca:

Annnd the only dog more ridiculous than Puppercini on the planet Earth is a pug with bear ears and a Hawaiian costume:

Maggie is going to be one whole year old on Sunday. I can’t flipping believe it has gone by that quickly. A year ago this time I was grotesquely preggo, waddling, sweating and SO god damn excited to go into labor and meet my kid. Meeps is such an awesome creature right now. She’s in that enraptured by everything phase. My belly button amused her for a good 15 minutes today. She uses her Green Toys Tea Set daily, with glee. Slurping away at imaginary soups that her brother cooks for her. She likes booby, and lots of it. And dirt. But doesn’t really care for food. Her kisses are huge, open mouth slobber jobs, full contact smackers. She is a noodle. Her legs are like two little wobbly fettucinis that just disappear into her equally petite bottom and bitty waist. Maggie stands at the side of the chicken tractor, yanking out grass and cramming it through the wire mesh for the birds. She doesn’t care that they don’t eat it. She feeds the goats the same way, and they do eat it. Which she thinks is awesome beyond belief. I can’t stop kissing her face. Because it’s always in my face. Because she wants really nothing more than to be in Mama’s arms. Which is something, while occasionally trying, that I would never wish away.

In other news, I made cheese today with my girlfriend Brandy. We made chevre, feta and ricotta. We’ll be turning some of the chevre into St.Maure, spraying it with white mould and letting it sit for a couple of weeks. Which will practically double it’s estimated street value. Here’s the feta after 4 hours of draining, about to be cut into chunks:

NOTE TO SELF. Stop wearing your Birkenstocks when out feeding goats and chickens. It is both painful and disgusting.
Mmmmm….feta is my favorite! I bet it will be delicious when it’s finished.
hihhi the littles bears looks so cute, and puppercini too!
))
and the chees look so yummy!
happy-birthday to meps, then!
Happy Birthday Maggie! She is so beautiful. Bob is handsome as well. They both look even cuter (if thats possible) in their bear outfits! Ack! I love family life!

Bob’s bike with the handle, what make is that? We’ve been looking for one like that and from the reviews, people complain that the handle sucks. Whats your opinion?
By the way, your life sound hectic a lot of the time but so peaceful, love it!
It’s a Kettler trike. If you can find them used, go for it because they seem to be pretty quality from our experience.
We like the handle a LOT, and have had no problems with it. Ive read that theyve broken for some folks, but our experience has been great!
Bob’s got a 2x handed down Kettler go-cart thing and it’s built like a tank! It has pedals and he lovvvves it.
If you ever find yourself in Toronto selling your cheeses, could you drop me a note please? I’m really interested in trying some of yours sometime.
the cheese looks incredible! i have a 30min mozzarella kit looming in my fridge… but then, i also have 5 month old twins. how realistic is the 30 minute estimate, any idea? so far all i’ve made is paneer, which is so easy it’s a joke.
E – 30 minutes might be more like an hour. And then clean up. The only reason my 30 minute mozz took all day is because I don’t have a microwave. Most of the 30 min recipes require one.
Most cheeses are that easy!
Wow, what a neat parade! I had the book and record of the Teddy Bear Picnic and loved it when I was a kid! The song was great! Your kids are so cute!
Hope things are going well for you. Here it’s been so cold (way out of the ordinary for the Okanagan), but my Zucchini don’t seem to mind, they’re growing like crazy!
Hannah is still recuperating from her eye surgery, but seems to be back to normal energy/attitude wise. I’m going to post some close ups and more detail on the surgery in my blog sometime this week if my internet works.
I so wish I lived near you so I could try your cheese. I don’t know if I like all the “fancy” cheese, and have not tried many types of cheeses. All your cheese look so tasty though!
Have a great day and week!!

I’ve been reading your blog for a while now, you are such an amazing person. You do everything that I’ve dreamed of from organic farming to tattoos to sewing. Just thought I’d send you some happy wishes and keep up the good work, what a neat family you have!
you boggle my mind! i live in freakin’ Wisconsin and wouldn’t even know where to begin learning how to make cheese let alone actually follow through with making any. i’d like a little of whatever miracle elixir you take cuz as it is right now i barely have the energy to keep up with my 3 year old let alone do one fraction of the things you do. your kids are so lucky to have you.
OMG what a great blog you have. Lisa was telling me about it and I smelled your soap at her house!! Yummy…have to come down to the market for sure.
Gosh, I have to take tomorrow off to read it all!!! Ash you’re funny, love your writing! See you at pipeband some time!!
