THE POODLE HAS LANDED

PUPPERS IS ON HIS WAY HOME!

(2 hour drive between us and where he ended up).

So.  Those people lied directly to us on two occasions.  Ed during our first phone call last Monday, claimed Puppers had run away the same night he brought him home.  His wife lied again in front of my husband, myself and our two children when we showed up on their doorstep pleading for any more information about him only two days ago, stating the same thing.  That’s it is “sad when dogs run away, isn’t it.”  Ed even told me some sob story about how they had to put their dog down recently, “I know what it’s like to lose a dog.”

Ed said a few things to me on the phone when I first talked to him that made me realize there was possibly something fishy going on.  (These things didn’t become clear until after I had stopped crying only a couple days ago, but I could not let them go).

For starters, he repeated three times “the dog ISN’T a puppy?  He’s HOW old?”  (Why does that matter, I thought).  Ed told me his wife was out with him when he found the dog and told him she didn’t want another dog.  (His wife told us Ed brought the dog home — knew then he lied, why lie.  And I also thought what a funny thing to think if you have JUST found someone’s “lost dog”.)  Then he asked me if the dog was HOUSETRAINED.  (Why do you need to know that if it ran away the first night it came home?) Also, they claimed he ran away from them. But Puppers never runs away. You could kick him and he’d still jump on you for attention. He’s petrified of his own shadow, I knew he wouldn’t have “run away” from them at night, or any other time for that matter.

Turns out Scott tattoos one of Ed’s daughters.  She’s been out of town all week.  She came home to see the news (spread all over town) of our dog being missing and also knew her Daddy Dearest had just brought a “new puppy” to her sister in Collingwood.   A dog he claimed was lost, that he spent “five days searching for the owners and came up with nothing”.  (Yeah, you missed US on your DOORSTEP, our several hundred flyers, our radio and television ads).  SO.  We quickly put it all together and my hero of a husband is driving back with Puppers as I type this.

Pups has been treated very well.  Bathed, bought a new blanket and toys for his crazy adventure.  We feel very badly for the Cooper’s daughters, as it must be quite unpleasant to have parents like that.

Puppercini was NOT wearing a collar when he was picked up since he has a collapsing trachea.  We were never worried about it because he is never more than three feet away from us at any given time.  Until last Saturday, when this outlandish journey began.

He will be getting microchipped and fitted for a harness tomorrow.

Learn from our lesson. And trust your instincts.

Puppers is coming home! I have been sending good thoughts his way every day that he’d return. What awful people, but at least they kept him safe. Yay, puppers!!

  6. Joan says:

wow, first off I am so ridiculously happy your puppers is on the way home.
Now, are these people brain damaged, so they not realize first off the disgusting, bad karma grabbing thing they did or the fact they live in a very tight knit community where news like this will travel fast? The fact that every neighboir they know, every person in the community they have to deal with on a daily basis will now know them as liars, thieves and all around disreputable excuses for human beings? Do they not realize the effect what they have done to a neihbour will haunt them and be whispered about for as long as they reside in the community?
First stealing a lil pupper from a family, what next, taking candy from the silly child that happens to look away? Geesh

  7. Joan says:

geez, I am really bad at typing fast when I’m miffed eh? Sorry

  8. Joan says:

One other question, have you thought of threatening legal action in a civil suit to recoup all the $$$ spend on flyers, radio and television ads as well as the travel to Collingwood to fetch lil puppers. Not to mention just for being and all around disgusting excuse for a man

  9. Courtney says:

What a sleaze ball. I’m glad the sister is giving him back too. It would be so horrible if she insisted on keeping him. Aw I’m so relieved you found him!

  13. Jessica says:

  15. AmandaG says:

W-O-W. I am so glad your dog is coming home, but holy freaking crap am I ever shocked at what those people did. That has to be one of the lowest things I have ever heard. I am surprised you haven’t punched that dude in the throat. Jeeze people are awful sometimes. At any rate it is good he is safe and coming home.

  16. Kat says:

I honestly did not think this story would have a happy ending because they usually don’t. Glad I was wrong. I am so happy that Puppers is safe and going home where he belongs.

  17. Ivy says:

I’m genuinely thrilled to hear that the little bundle is safe, sound and on his way home! It’s just such a pity that he crossed paths with those awful people. Thank goodness he’s okay.

  19. Tasha says:

YYYYYYYAAAAAAHHHHHHH! that is most excellent news that he is home and safe :) How freaking bizzare is that though…it never ceases to amaze me of the stupidity of others…but I know one thing..Karma is real and one day he will have it riding his shirt-tales…dumb-ass

  20. I imagine that you have a few choice words for the dog thief… but I am sure that pales in comparison to the huggles and kisses Puppers gave you when he saw you.
The people who returned Puppers to you did the right thing, even if their parental unit did not. Too bad it took such a long time, must have been torture for you and the family.
How are you going to react next time you see the good ole boy?
Ecstatic that Puppers is home where he belongs!!
    :)
    Hugs to Bucky as well!
    Diane

  21. Just a thought – wouldn’t this make a GREAT feel good story for the local news?
    Maybe CTV?
A plug for the shop as well?
    Hmmm?
I can film it next week and post it on youtube…
    :)
    Dognappers BEWARE!!!
    :)

  22. Ro says:

    Hurrah!

And what wankers! You should so let Diane film it and give it to the news. Be sure to name the bastards often and loudly!

    So glad for you guys!

  28. Hayley says:

  29. Honore says:

You have no idea how happy I am for you! All I could imagine was that poor dog all alone in the woods and how scared he must be. Puppers is so lucky to have an amazing family!

  30. Charley says:

Yay!!! So glad he’s safe and sound, something tells me Puppers won’t be attempting anymore adventures and those jerks will get a karmic snap on the ass. Here’s hoping!

  31. Jules says:

Seriously?? This is like a really bad SPCA ad. I’m happy that your house is once again filled with the pitter-patter of Pupper’s feet.

  32. Karma says:

    I’M A B*&$% WHEN I WANT TO BE!

  44. Joan says:

darn it. Good ol Ed’s digits are not listed

  45. Jenn says:

I am so relieved to learn Puppers is alive, well and coming back home where he belongs!

It’s unbelievable that these cretins would take him and allow your family to suffer, especially since they saw firsthand how distraught you all are. Nice to know their daughter had the decency to tell the truth!

I sure hope everyone in your town hears about what they put you through!

  46. Lisatlantic says:

I got chills when I read that first sentence. I’m SO happy that he’s back where he belongs!

  47. Evalina says:

What grade A asswipes!! Can’t believe how absolutely heartless and selfish some people are. On a positive note I’m soooooo happy he’s coming home!!!!!

  48. Twwly says:

    Joan – he’s probably a Ripley listing.

  49. Elaine says:

What a shitty thing to do. And even if you don’t have any scruples it doesn’t make SENSE. Did they think you were lying about the gravity of pupper’s medical issues and think he’d be alright with their daughter and without medicine? Crazy.

  50. rigel says:

holy crap, that’s ridiculous!!! i’m SO HAPPY puppers is coming home, but i cannot BELIEVE the audacity of those people!!! also, if you haven’t gotten a harness yet, lula has a soft mesh one that’s super comfortable for her – all the other ones she had she tried to get out of. she is 7 pounds and wears a small and it’s adjustable, so an xs would certainly fit little puppers!! it’s this one – http://bit.ly/nMdww :)

really so happy you found him, i still cannot believe someone would steal your dog in front of you and then lie about it!!!!
