Sleep at Last.

March 11th, 2009

We’ve had a pretty good go since January.  The year started with Scott’s vasectomy woes.  Then Meeps got sick, and couldn’t latch at night.  So instead of having a nibble and passing out, she woke up every hour or two to cry.  On a few remarkable nights, we were up every 30 minutes. Bob was finally diagnosed with tonsilitis after two trips to the ER and four days of a 104′ fever.  Scott also got the sickness.  Then Meeps got sick again and it took three days for her fever to break.  Somewhere in there she cut four teeth and I got an ear infection.

We’ve had so little sleep for over a month that we are completely and utterly run down and now Scott has the most wicked case of pink-eye I think I have ever seen.  And is off work for the second time in 2009.  (Seeing as he is booked solid for 2009, simply rescheduling clients is a truly remarkable feat).  We were at our most sleep deprived stint on record,  even worse than when Bob was little  – my ‘high needs’ son nursed most nights every 45 minutes, then later straight from 4am on, until we night weaned him when I got pregnant with Maggie.

We have crammed all of our winter sickness into about 6 weeks and boy.  Can I get a vacation over here?  Though I would settle for a pedicure.  Or even just a hot shower.

But last night, everyone slept.  Meeps didn’t cry herself into consciousness 10 times, the demoted hunting dog didn’t demand a 2am potty break, Bob didn’t have a nightmare, nope.  Nothing.  Everyone just slept.  Hallelujah.

Bob in PJsMags in Amish style dress

Here’s Bob in his jammers and Meeps in another little Amish style dress that I sewed her.  I sewed Bob a shirt yesterday using the Amish pattern, though I need to redo the collar.  Today we are taking a field trip with Ida to the Amish school house for the afternoon.  (“Show & tell?” my friend ribbed me).  I’ll get to see how lots of those little collars are made then.  Can’t wait!

Sounds like a pretty tough month! Glad to see things are looking up sleep (and hopefully health!) wise.

Glad you all got some sleep finally… albeit 3 months in to 2009! I love Meeps’ outfit. The green is such a gorgeous colour. Kudos to you for the sewing too, I’m a rubbish hand!

whoa, you guys have had a rough go of it, for sure!

by the way, my ND recommends 1,000 IUS vit D for every kg of body weight for 3 days when you get an acute illness.

Oh dear. I do sympathise. Young Sparkles is an absolutely TERRIBLE sleeper: he just doesn’t seem to need much of it at all.

In fact, I just flew home to SA, and made the discovery that he can go 36 hours on only 4 hours of sleep…………..and still chase around airports like he is on speed.

Hope you have lots more nice sleep.

Uch! that sounds like a horrible time. I have loved reading your blog for the last few months. I don’t know how you find time to update it when you have had the kind of months you have been having. I wish I lived closer to Kincardine because I crave conversation with like-minded mothers, such as you, instead of having the millionth conversation where i defend my cloth diapers and explain why i don’t think sitting my baby in front of a tv makes her smarter because there is background classical music and so on. Your blog has comforted me when I feel like I am exasperated and want to tell everyone to screw off and stop asking to hold her if they disagree with how I parent! So Spectacular Thanks to you!! Hope your sleep gets cozier and longer!

Just checkin’ in, my fellow Canuck.

did you put breastmilk into his eyes to cure the pinkeye? i use it on the whole family whenever we come down with it…i even took some milk over to a friend once when she came down with the pink eye!

Oh yes, he was getting squirted in the eye every day. Unfortunately it was viral so it took its sweet time going away.
